Although the Global Game Jam is strictly speaking not a contest and is all about collaboration, the GGJ in the Netherlands has always awarded prizes to games that turned out to be the most interesting, well made or just fun. This year we continue this tradition. Since we have five locations now, we do things a little differently.

A jury will award first, second and third prizes to the best games of each location. The first place winners are then invited to showcase their games during Control Gamelab #2 in Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam, on February 14th.

Each #1 winning team receives a brand new XBox 360 with Kinect, courtesy of our sponsor Microsoft at the event in Amsterdam. Now that’s worth putting in even more effort, isn’t it?

Unexpected openings at HKU Hilversum location and HvA Amsterdam

GameMaker:HTML5 for GGJ12 participants

The GGJ Directors are excited to announce YoYo Games as one of the sponsors of GGJ 2012, along with Windows Phone, Autodesk, Gaming Academy, Indie City, and Brass Monkey.

YoYo Games offers -all- participants around the world, coupon codes for ‘a free (2month) time-limited copy of (fully functional) GameMaker:HTML5′ to help participants with game jamming. They also offer a 50% discount on GameMaker:Studio when it is launched later this year.

NHTV Breda now completely closed

The GGJ location at NHTV Breda is now completely closed. All available spots are taken, and the waiting list is full as well. There is still a waiting list at Amsterdam and you may still sign up for the location in Enschede (Saxion).
